Overview
The Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek is a challenging and remote trekking adventure that takes you to the base of the world’s third highest peak, Mount Kanchenjunga. Located in the eastern region of Nepal, the trek offers unparalleled views of towering Himalayan peaks, pristine alpine landscapes, and diverse flora and fauna. This lesser-known trekking route allows you to explore remote villages, encounter unique cultures, and immerse yourself in the raw beauty of the Himalayas.
Itinerary
Day 1 :
Arrival in Kathmandu
Welcome to Nepal! Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, our friendly team will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. Take some time to rest and explore the vibrant capital city before embarking on your adventure.
Day 2 :
Kathmandu Sightseeing
Today, we'll explore the cultural wonders of Kathmandu. Visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple), Pashupatinath Temple, and Boudhanath Stupa. Learn about Nepal's rich history, religion, and architecture as you immerse yourself in the bustling streets of Kathmandu.
Day 3 :
Fly to Bhadrapur, Drive to Taplejung
After breakfast, we'll take a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur, followed by a thrilling drive to Taplejung. Enjoy picturesque views of rural Nepal as we journey towards the starting point of our trek. Overnight stay in Taplejung.
Day 4 :
Trek to Chiruwa (1,270m)
Our trek begins today as we head towards Chiruwa, a charming village nestled amidst lush forests and terraced fields. Enjoy easy trails and stunning views of the surrounding hills and valleys. Overnight stay in Chiruwa.
Day 5 :
Trek to Lelep (1,680m)
Today's trek takes us through dense forests and alongside the Tamor River as we make our way to Lelep. Along the way, we'll encounter local villagers going about their daily lives and soak in the tranquility of the Himalayan wilderness. Overnight stay in Lelep.
Day 6 :
Trek to Amjilosa (2,390m)
Experience the beauty of the Himalayan landscape as we trek to Amjilosa, a picturesque village surrounded by towering mountains. Traverse suspension bridges and winding trails, with glimpses of Mount Kanchenjunga in the distance. Overnight stay in Amjilosa.
Day 7 :
Trek to Gyabla (2,770m)
Today, we'll ascend further into the mountains as we trek to Gyabla. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Himalayas and encounter unique flora and fauna along the way. Gyabla offers a peaceful retreat amidst the rugged wilderness. Overnight stay in Gyabla.
Day 8 :
Rest Day in Gyabla
Take a well-deserved rest day in Gyabla to acclimatize to the altitude and explore the surrounding area. Enjoy leisurely walks, interact with local villagers, or simply relax and take in the majestic mountain views.
Day 9 :
Trek to Ghunsa (3,595m)
Our trek continues as we make our way to Ghunsa, a charming Sherpa village renowned for its hospitality. Trek through rhododendron forests and alpine meadows, with occasional sightings of wildlife such as yaks and blue sheep. Overnight stay in Ghunsa.
Day 10 :
Trek to Kambachen (4,050m)
Today's trek takes us deeper into the wilderness as we ascend to Kambachen, a remote village located in the shadow of Mount Kanchenjunga. Marvel at the towering peaks and pristine landscapes that surround us. Overnight stay in Kambachen.
Day 11 :
Acclimatization Day in Kambachen
Take a rest day in Kambachen to acclimatize to the high altitude and prepare for the challenges ahead. Explore the surrounding area, visit local monasteries, or simply relax and enjoy the tranquility of the mountains.
Day 12 :
Trek to Lhonak (4,780m)
Today, we'll trek to Lhonak, our final stop before reaching the Kanchenjunga Base Camp. Enjoy panoramic views of glaciers and snow-capped peaks as we traverse high mountain passes and rugged terrain. Overnight stay in Lhonak.
Day 13 :
Trek to Kanchenjunga Base Camp (5,143m) and back to Pangpema
The highlight of our trek awaits as we journey to the Kanchenjunga Base Camp, located at the foot of the majestic Mount Kanchenjunga. Marvel at the awe-inspiring beauty of the Himalayas and soak in the sense of accomplishment. After exploring the base camp, we'll return to Pangpema for overnight stay.
Day 14 :
Trek back to Ghunsa
Bid farewell to the Kanchenjunga region as we begin our descent back to Ghunsa. Retrace our steps through valleys and forests, with fond memories of our Himalayan adventure. Overnight stay in Ghunsa.
Day 15 :
Trek back to Amjilosa
Continue our descent as we trek back to Amjilosa, enjoying familiar trails and stunning mountain views along the way. Take in the sights and sounds of the Himalayan wilderness one last time before reaching our destination. Overnight stay in Amjilosa.
Day 16 :
Trek back to Taplejung
Our trek concludes as we make our way back to Taplejung, where our adventure began. Reflect on the unforgettable experiences and friendships made during our journey through the Himalayas. Overnight stay in Taplejung.
Day 17 :
Drive to Bhadrapur, Fly to Kathmandu
After breakfast, we'll drive to Bhadrapur and catch a flight back to Kathmandu. Enjoy your final views of the Himalayas from the air as we bid farewell to the mountains. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, transfer to your hotel and enjoy a well-deserved rest.
Day 18 :
Departure from Kathmandu
Sadly, it's time to say goodbye to Nepal as we transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward journey. Take with you memories of a lifetime and the promise of new adventures ahead.
